An Interesting Idea of Limitations

So, I was reading this article by David Pogue in The New York Times Circuts section (his story is amazing, starting at a Mac User Group newsletter, to MacWorld, to publishing books and NYT's). He was talking about the limits of using an iPod and the iTunes Music Store, which use MP4 (or AAC) instead of Windows Media Files. He said something along the lines of 'yes, it is limited. But there is nothing wrong be limited to filet mignon or Four Seasons or a Lexus."

And that is the point of the Mac. It may be limited, but that is good, there is no crap. You get all the programs you would basically need when you get it. The networking set up is incredibly simple. It is a multimedia workhorse, as well as good for school and stuff. And also Windows Media Files suck. so there.

See Dco, here is my problem, There are a lot of people exposed to the ITUNES music store. They dont necessarily own an ipod or a mac but they still see Itunes as the premiere legal music download system. Its all a great marketing ploy, but I find it ridiculous that when you "purchase" a song from the system you dont have full use of the song, because its not a media file. this extra "crap" you mention is called complete freedom with your item of purchase. I apologize to start up this argument again, but this itunes store is just an opulent middleman cashing in on the millions of people who are already being screwed by another middleman (RIAA). I dont care about this idea that "they have most songs and bands" if they dont have tracks from all of the artists I listen too, than they will never convert me.

gabby, they are all the same, the music stores, they all have some sort of implementation of digital rights, You are also paying for convenience, of not having to go to the store.

I was not talking about the complete freedom of using the file. I am talking about where you can USE the file, on what format. See, the iTunes Music Store songs are only playable in iTunes or on an iPod. Where as the songs that come in WMA format are playable on more pieces of software and hardware players. yet, the limitation of the iTMS songs are like being limited to Four Seasons, the top of the class.

And also, there is a lot of freedom with your song from the iTMS, you can burn it as many times as you like, transport it to different computers. Share it on the network with iTunes (not copy, but stream it). It is not locked on your computer.
