...or is it?
Well, I got the amazoing 8 trackbacks (much better than my usual 0) on my comments on the new pricing structure for MovableType 3. So, Six Apart, the company who created the wondeful product and sells it, has since revised their licensing costs.
First of all, the MT3 software does not limit the functionallity, only the license does that. So, I installed MT3 on my site, DCo1.com, which had four weblogs and two authors and amazoingly it worked, even though the license was for three weblogs and one author. The new pricing structure, or at least the one I am worried about is the Personal one. Now, one can have 5 blogs and three authors, which gives a nice amount of leg room. ALSO, it has been discussed of what a "weblog" is.
Now, some people use 3 blogs to make one site. Such as by using one blog for content, another to list links, and another to show off something else. Six Apart feels that this is just one blog. Also, an "author" is a user who has posted in the last 90 days. So, if you had one site that was powered by 90 weblogs and it had 20 authors, but you were the only one who had ever posted, it would still be free.
Also, the new TypeKey feature is enough for anyone who has ever gotten comment spam to do something about it. It fosters the building of a larger internet community where you know who someone is by looking at their TypeKey profile. I think it is a great idea.
Finally, under the new pricing , the CiM Blog Community could be upgraded for $150 or so (at the introductory price) which would allow for 13 authors and 13 blogs. For another $10, you can get 1 more blog and author. Which, does not make much sense to me. I think it would better if, for personal use beyond the FREE choice, it would be $10 for a blog and an author, and you will build your license from there. This seems to be more reasonable than was originally considered. Does this mean I will pay? Does it look like I have money?

blasmaphamatastic, I say.
we are in no need of new authors. we must have readers first. and I must supply a swiss cheese and turkey sandwich for myself.
good night.
