Goooooo Blue Jackets
Tonight, after the first day of training was over, we all headed over to watch the Columbus Blue Jackets play in the Nationwide Arena [on your side] which was about four blocks from where we were all staying and doing business. This was my first NHL game experience, and most likely my first non-mighty ducks non-sega genesis hockey experience
I had never seen hockey played before for real, and I have to admit, I was entranced by it. The idea of continus gameplay, whilst players are coming on and off the ice and maybe a helmet or a broken stick is on there. I had a small Dr. Pepper, a thing of over buttered and over salted pop corn (which I didn't finish), and an upatizing hot dog with mustard and onions. You know, after having great hot dogs, such as from Red Hot Lovers, one cannot go back easily to piece of crap arena-dogs.
At one point, it was three against four (not including goalies) and one of the people on the three side broke his stick. So, he was just using his whole body out there to get the job done, and it was fantastic. Again, the continuous gameplay versus that seen in football or basketball. There should be more sports like that where the gameplay is not always interrupted or done in short spurts or segments. Ultimate Frisbee has more continous gameplay which is part of why it is such an amazing sport.
IN the end, the Blue Jackets (the union) won 4 to 1 over those pesky San Jose Sharks. My first NHL experience was very different from what I had seen in Airborne.
