"Chumscrubber" and "Thumbsucker"
I have watched these two movies, Chumscrubber and Thumbsucker. They both deal with medicating high school kids, and one lone young man's quest for feeling normalized. However, that is the most of their comparisons (except for sharing the same actor. Maybe Hollywood is at a loss for people who are old but look young... hello, I am right here). Well, they both feature younger brothers to the main characters.
Chumscrubber ended in a very unexpected way, in a good way, I would like to think. Although, it might have tied things up too cleanly. Jaime Bell, the star of the show (remember he plays the young white boy in PJ's King Kong) is relatively the same age as me. That is messed up. We have perfectly fine yanks here, but we are importing 20 year olds to play us. Thumbsucker also has amazing soundtrack. It feels more art house, more dense.... definitely a wider aspect ratio. Odd how these two movies, with titles sounding so similar, seem to revolve around the same idea of a weird high school kid who has a social disease and focuses too much on these kids. Like high school is the pinnacle moment of their lives. Add them to your NetFlix queue, or whatever, and I will continue to rent movies.
