Probably for family and bullshit.
But the two places to live are right fuck in the middle of the city where everything's right there or way fuck out in the wilderness where you can do what you please on the land. Anything else is bullshit.
Posted by icejew at October 20, 2005 01:25 PMyes. all compromises are total bullshit.
Posted by: farbs at October 20, 2005 05:12 PMNo the point is you gain nothing by living in a suburb or in a farther out part of the city. I should have said rural towns make sense, but I don't really see a split happening when you move farther away from the center of a city; you don't get any more freedom or wilderness or anything. When you get really far out you start gaining privacy and freedom and connection to the land but you don't get any of that living in Northwest or Bethesda or Germantown, so it's not compromise but just straight up loss. I can see doing that shit for school and the safety of families and shit even though you're raising a family of pussies by doing that, but I can't see doing that for yourself. Start moving up into like the foothills of the appalachians and there's a gain.
Posted by: DHI at October 20, 2005 06:37 PMActually much of Northwest DC is very much not bullshit, considering how big Northwest is because of where they put the Capitol, but I meant upper Northwest.
Posted by: DHI at October 20, 2005 06:38 PMupper nw is alright. think about what it would be like to live in some deep suburbs. in upper northwest you get the ability to have a quiet place with a lawn and a big house and youre 20 minutes away from the good stuff. a rural situation would be alright but youd probably get pretty bored with that extra freedom.
Posted by: afsd at October 21, 2005 02:16 AMIscoe,
It really doesnt makes sense to talk about suburban parts of the city. A farther out part of Washington DC is still like less than 20 minutes away from anything in the city. And man in all honesty if you lived on capitol hill and had a job that you could walk to, the time it would take to get to that job by walking is comparable to the time it would take if you had the same job but lived in the upper and took the metro in a reasonably good time. Dont you realize how we cruise down military to 16th and then we is at Georgia, that shit takes like 5 minutes and its mainly because of street lights.
Posted by: GRB at October 21, 2005 03:37 PMagree with luasn
i'd rather travel 10 minutes to be surrounded by stuff in the core of a city than travel 10 minutes just to get away from it if i wanted to
Posted by: sw at October 21, 2005 11:42 PMI mean what the fuck do you get away from? What's ten minutes away that's away from anything negative?
Fuck, man, I wish I were ten minutes away from Smokey's right now.
Posted by: TheHerbephile at October 25, 2005 01:59 AMI am trying to convince my parents to leave the house to me when they die. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Posted by: Lindsay at October 26, 2005 11:04 AMThe Astros have been in even worse shape, using three starters with less than two years of major-league experience. Signing Clemens to go with right-hander Roy Oswalt and left-hander Andy Pettitte again gives them a legitimate Big Three once again. If Clemens, after several minor-league tuneups, proves anywhere near as good as he was last season, he will give the team precisely the lift it needs.
