Alright alright alright

I'm gonna give this place a month to see if it improves before I start filling out transfer apps to places the fuck out of this upper east coast region, and not to California neither. I don't even know where to go. Maybe not to college. I know what the fuck I'm talking about, I know the disadvantages. I guess I now have some major incentive to get good grades.

That's the big question, isn't it? School is somewhat lame, but where else are you gonna go?

Well, if you do leave, you could always join my grand old profession. We need some recruits... Who knows, maybe one day I could become your boss...

QUADRATHLON comin up...

That's Mr. James Clinton Billings of the Merchant Marines Academy, who belives for some reason that a military academy would provide me with great freedom and relief from monotony.

Posted by: DHI at October 23, 2005 02:18 PM

Is the merchant marine even part of the military?
QUADRATHALON! QUADRATHALON! QUADRATHALON! QUADRATHALON! QUADRATHALON! QUADRATHALON!

Posted by: Cortez at October 23, 2005 02:40 PM

Not really but sort of. There are military ranks and training and stuff but they don't see combat, except I think during war they are considered military or something

Posted by: DHI at October 23, 2005 04:44 PM

Billings can explain it better.

The Merchant Marine are the guys running ships, be they container ships, tankers, or cruise ships. We are considered the bastard child of the military, because we play an important part, but they don't like us. Kings Point, which is a service academy, trains you to be a military officer and a mate on a ship. The government still pays for your education and you still have to go into the military after graduation, only we can choose whether to go active or reserve. And David, if you want freedom, you can always become a sailor. An A/B can get about 50 grand a year, working only for 6 months.

yeah just go on one of those awesome boats where you might die so they pay you a ton of money and then when you get back you can buy whatever kidn of whiskey you want to

Please... I'm a sailor... I prefer rum

Posted by: KP09 at October 23, 2005 07:53 PM

Discoe are you transferring?

Posted by: Lindsay at October 24, 2005 04:35 PM

I don't know yet. You can be sure of one thing: I will remain in this great nation. I'm no traitor.

The Astros have been in even worse shape, using three starters with less than two years of major-league experience. Signing Clemens to go with right-hander Roy Oswalt and left-hander Andy Pettitte again gives them a legitimate Big Three once again. If Clemens, after several minor-league tuneups, proves anywhere near as good as he was last season, he will give the team precisely the lift it needs.
